TURBO TOUCH!!!

Turbo touch is a game, plenty of Summerland Y6 students went to play at Henderson Intermediate against other schools. Other schools came to play against us... Some schools were very hard to play against! Turbo touch includes boys and girls so we took a boys and a girls group to Henderson Intermediate. We had 2 breaks for morning tea and a little snack before our next game. We had a sasuage sizzle for lunch.. Henderson Intermediate had prepared for us 4 schools. At the end we had prize giving Pomaria took out the whole competition for Turbo touch but a teacher said it dose not matter because were all just there for some friendly games and lots and lots of fun.

Discussion question

Which character do you think is the most inportant the story.

I think jesse is the most inportant in the story because he is the person that the book describes the most and talks about him the most.

Bridge To Terabithia (cameron)

Bridge To Terabithia, a magical, imaginative adventure that gives you a whole new perspective on the out doors and what you could make of it. In this book a boy called Jesse (Jess) finds a new friend called Leslie, a girl with a big imagination and a very different life, who is the founder and ruler of "Terabithia", a ruler as well as Jesse of course. In this gripping novel there is a new girl called Leslie at school and she is always bullied and Jess feels sorry for her, she is also Jesse's neighbour and one day after school they both go into the forest out the back of Leslie's house and name it Terabithia. I give it a eight out of ten because in some parts you don't know whats going on. It is still a good book and follows the movie very well unlike some books.

Lynette's words about Bridge To Teribithia

This book is a very different and more detailed then the movie. So far Im up to the the part when its after Christmas and Leslie and her dad are trying to repair the old house while Leslie's mum was working on writing a book. Leslie always helps her dad whenever she comes home and her dad does like her company. So Jess goes to Teribithia alone but he needed Leslie to make the magic worked. I think that this book is really different to the movie and is really imaginative.

"Have any of the characters changed in the story?" Yes Jess has changed.

"What caused him to change?" Well when Leslie has arrived he feels more imaginative and more free to do things.

Grace's thoughts on Bridge to Terabithia

Bridge to Teribithia is a great book so far. At the moment in the book Jesse met Leslie and they became great friends. When Leslie started at school not everyone welcomed her with open arms until they learnt that one of Leslie's favourite hobbies is scuba diving. The book is written by Katherine Paterson. So far I am enjoying the book and everything is unexpected.If I had to chose a character to be my friend it would be Leslie because she doesn't think highly of herself and is very king and caring. Plus she is into sports and pets like me.

Bridge to Teribithia

So far in bridge to teribithia jesse has made a best friend called leslie and has found a place in the forest that they called tribithia and they made this imaginary kingdom that they always hang out in it.When it came to christmas leslie gave jesse an art pack and jesse gave leslie a puppy and they called it prince terren pt for short but then later leslie dies she drowns in the lake and i think it is really sad

Ki-O-Rahi

Room 16 were lucky enough to be taught a traditional maori game Ki o Rahi. We had fun learning the history behind it and we enjoyed actually playing the game. We are now practicing so that we can teach other classes how to play this game.

I predict in the story some kids from a school are going to study a rat/mouse for some homework. They will all be given a rat/mouse and will teach it tricks and will also see if it is intelligent, interesting, destructive, or carries diseases. Intelligent and interesting because it might understand human being's language and ways of playing. Destructive because it might eat your homework.

I predict that in the story Pet perspectives, they get a pet mouse for a science project.They might be seeing if it could do any tricks or see if caries any disease, they might see if it is intelligent, interesting or see if the mouse is destructive.I think when the mouse gets older it might create a big mess like it might eat all the food in the cupboard, and it might even go up your pants at night when your are sleeping.

"Blind Clap" Math Game - Cool New Maths Game!

Before the game starts the teacher(leader) has to choose either a Multiplication, Addition or Subtraction for the question. Everyone gets in a circle and have their eyes closed, the teacher(leader) has to secretly tap two people to have their eyes open(You tap the first person once and the second person twice). These people are going to be clappers of the numbers. For example the first person claps three times and they have to say "done" then the second person claps there number. These numbers are the multiplied, added or subtracted. Once both people finish clapping the rest of the people who have their eyes close shouts out the answer or place hands on their head. The first person who gets the question right they get to choose the next two people who clap.

We played this game with our class and everyone got confused at first but then we got the hang of it. We later got separated into groups of four and then the room was filled with clapping hands. We hope everyone who tries this game will enjoy it and help you learn your listening skills and your maths.

Friendship Seat!!

It had happened when somebody was on the Friendship seat.. we saw here and she was crying cause she had no one to play because she was alone obviously!

So Me and Malaga went over to her and asked if she wanted to play hand ball she said yes but she kept getting out but we encouraged her in trying to stay in and she almost kicked us all out!!....

The trip to the stardome was amazing.We got got to see a moive that showed the dangers of space and the cool things about space.To see the moive we had to go into a dome that made it seem so real,after the moive we saw some planets that look like stars to us.then we saw some clips of space men on the moon and learned how far away the other planets are and when we were going back to school it felt like we only gone for five minutes and all we would do the next day was talk about our trip!

every Monday night people from Summerland primary go to the trust stadium to play for our school in basketball. The most annoying thing about it is that somtimes people book all the courts before us so the basket ball times are always changeing. Our coachs name is shane and our manager is Mawada toyar. we lost lots of games so the coach (shane) makes us practice every thursday and he is a really good coach

Monday night basketball

People from summerland primary school went to the trust stadium to support our school.Every monday they go to play basketball, sometimes our basketball times change but our usual time of playing basketball is 5:50pm but on monday 31st may 2010 we had our game at 6:20pm.For two whole weeks we didn't have basketball because the stadium was over booked so it was really annoying and I got really angry.It wasn't fun having to miss two basketball games.Our coaches name is Shane and our managers name is Mawwada toyer.Our positions changes every quarter but the problem is that we lose a lot of games and we lost the finals aswell.

It is good that we do sport because you get more fit and more better at the activity too and its fun doing sport because you can now how too do the activity.You should learn to do a type of sport like soccer or basketball or hokey and softball.Or more kinds of sport!or you can practise the sport that your not good at and you can get better.

Space mnemonic

For the last couple of weeks, we have been learning about space. Last week we got homework which was based on Space. We had to think of a mnemonic to remember the names of the planets and remember what order they are in. For example Mrs Van Gils said My Very Excited Mother Joyfully Served Up Nine Pizzas. That was one of the mnemonics. I thought the best one was mine. Many Vicious Elderly Men Just Sneezed Under News Paper. My mnemonic helped me a lot to remember the planets.

Learning how to blog

Today it is the Wekas turn to learn how to add to our classroom blog. We are learning what types of things we can blog about such as, our learning in the classroom, trips we have been on, we can write specifically about reading tasks if we want to or about books we can read. There are many other things we can also blog about if we want to. But we must always remember never to include our last names.

We need to tag blog posts with our name and the subject of our blog e.g this one will be tagged reading and wekas.

After lunch today you will be able to check out a new blog post from each of us. We will do it during our SSR time.

going to the stardome

On the 27th of may we went to the star dome and the people at star dome told us about space and showed us a few moives about space the first one we saw was in a dome and everything looked 3d, the first part was inside the body when the space ship take off.It was cool when we saw people working on the hubble telescope it felt like we were floating.They showed us the dangers in space but it was in cartoons so we did not get scared.After the moive our shirts were light blue.

THE 13th FLOOR !!!

I haven't read most of this book but I have read enough to know what the book is about. So this book is about a girl ( Abby ) and a boy ( Todd ) they live in a hotel but the hotel doesn't have a 13th floor but Todd and Abby still believe that theres a 13th floor so they go in the lift and go from 1, 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8, 9, 10 , 11 , 12, 14 but the lift goes slow when it gets in between 12 and 14 so there must be a 13th floor but theres only one way at only one time at midnight when theres a rocking horse moon. Who knows if they'll ever get out of the 13th floor.

The movie

On Friday 28th of may 2010 after school Val (my nana ) and me ( Chloe ) where going to get a movie and my dad was making snacks for us. So when we got home we got home we could eat them it was yummy yummy yummy . The movie was cool.

Writing an Alien Description!

For the past few days we've been writing some interesting description about aliens!

First we draw a picture of our own alien.

Second thing we do is write a character web,

which is listing down the behaviour, looks like, personality, person connections and speech

(how they talk). We use these to help us make ideas for our character description.

Next thing we do is use the character web to write a make a character description of our alien.

When we finished all of that we show our teacher and then type it in the computer, using Pages.

After that we print it out and look through the whole description to look for any mistakes. We also put in some new words like adjectives, which is a word that describes another word.

Last but not least we show our teacher again, type the edited description on Pages and print it out. Thats how we make an alien description.

Our Trip to Stardome!!!!!!!

On the 24 of May, the Huia pod went on a field trip to the Stardome at One Tree Hill.

We first went on the bus and about 30 minutes later, we were at Stardome. We first had a play on the playground and then we were allowed to go inside. We then put our bags in the closet then we went to the movie room. It was spread all across the top of dome and when we started watching the show, it felt like we were actually doing it and some of us actually felt a bit dizzy watching it. Then after the show, we were shown the night sky and how it would look like if there were no clouds. Then we were shown things like particular stars that are actually planets. Constellations, dangers in space etc. After that, we went to explore the foyer and displays. They had things like planets and rocks etc. Then we went into a room which had a projector, a screen, models of planets etc. We then were asking questions, watching shows, and showing what we thought how far the planets were. Then we went outside to eat lunch and after that we had a little play on the playground. Then we went back to school. It was an awesome day. The thing I liked the most was the movie dome because of the movie. That was really cool.

When you go to star dome they will show you what I saw they will show you how to spot stars and how the ancestors saw the stars. I was going to star dome on Monday the 24th of may 2010 it was a little bit rainy but not to bat at morning we were playing on the playground there was a beautiful big toy train you could play on it if you wanted to. It was rainy in the afternoon. I got thought a lot you could to.

Stars and Planets at Stardome

On Monday the 24 of May 2010 Huia went to Stardome! It was awesome we learned lots of amazing things there, like constellations, dangers in space and heaps more! But I thought the best thing at Stardome was the huge movie dome where we watched a movie on the ceiling about the stars and astronauts. The movie started with a roller coaster ride down an astronauts body during a spaceship launch! The most amazing thing about it was that we felt like we were on a real roller coaster! We also learnt about the tests the astronauts had to do before they were allowed to travel to space, then we looked at a few dangers and constellations in space.

When we had to go back to school I had to agree that it was the best day ever! By Sharon

STAR DOME!!!

Whoosh "Oh no, oh no, aaahhh!".... ba boom, ba boom, ba boom.... shhhhhhh"yahhhhh" This is what it feels like to be a blood cell zipping through an astronauts body during take off! It isn't very fun at all. I was looking up at a giant dome screen experiencing the inside of an astronauts body... Ew! I watched a weird movie called astronaut it showed all of the steps of becoming an astronaut and exploring space. Bailey got scared and hugged williams arm, only for a laugh he wasn't really scared. It was not as good as I thaught it would be but I still had fun.

Smiley Watt

On my first day ever at work I walked through the doors and saw who is now my best friend.

Her name is Smiley Watt. She is truly always smiley and has chocolate coloured hair. Smiley is very good looking for a 37 year old mother of six.

I remember the first time I went round to Smiley's and found out she had six pretty and handsome kids named Leila(14), Jay(12), max(10),Alex(8) and the two six year old twins Loren and Jenny.

I'm guessing you want to know where we work. Okay I'll tell you. We work in London, England at the best branch of Smileys The best fashion designing country in the world! Although we live in England Smiley has a really strong american accent.(Because obviously she grew up there.) I get really jealous when I see Smiley and her husband Rob together because Rob is one of the most famous actors of all time!

Me and Smiley have lots of things in common. We both love fabric and jewllewry, hate cabbage, love cupcakes and hate people disaproving our clothes.

The thing I love most about Smiley is that she has a chirpy personality and always looks on the brighter side of things. One day I was talking to Alex and she said "Smiley is the best mummy in the world"!

Stardome

On the 24th of may we went to the Stardome. For some of us it was our fist trip to the Stardome. Before we entered the Stardome we played in the playground. after a while we entered the Stardome. We were all surprised when we went inside. After we put our bags away we went into a room and watched a movie on the ceiling and it was almost like the movie was 3d!
Next we watched another movie which was more about astronauts and in part of this movie there were 2 astronaut that was singing on the moon, and he dropped his tool and when he tried to pick it up but he fall over and couldn't get up.

Soon It was time to eat lunch we ate at the playground and played for a little while and then it was time to leave.

Trip to Stardome

On the 24Th of may Room 14 & 16 went to Stardome for a trip to learn about our topic . We went into a dome shape room with the most comfortable seats they were like lazy boys. Daniel and I thought Mrs Van gills was sleeping on the chair but she just closed her eyes . We watched an Astronaut movie about what is happening in the astronauts body when a rocket is taking off and what are the dangers in space on the dome roof. At one part we thought the room was moving but the screen was moving. We even thought that the movie was 3D but it was flat on the roof.

You can get a little scared going in a new classroom but if you come into room 16 when the bell rings you snap into place when we do the first activity most of the time its reading or maths but it is fun because your in a group with other year 5 and 6s. When its the end of the day you just don't want to go home!

its coming fast people have signed up I did it last year but not this year its in massy close to the libary they have it there and its free too! its fun and they do it once a year.

Today at maths most of us got to do theme park math,It was fun because you got 500,000 dollars to spend on a theme park but you still have to have some money left or you can't open it for the day and later on there comes more things to buy like a swimming pool,sweet shop,theater,hotel,playground and more its so fun you forget that its math!

Going to Australia

The day before my cousin Megan,my mum Lynnette and me Chloe where going to Australia when i had to go to bed i was so exited but finally i did.When i got up i was so tide but i got dressed and we went.When we where at the airport we did the thing we needed to.At Australia we went to chocolate by the bold man and had a chocolate pizza.When it was time to go we went and it was sad to leave.

On Monday the 24th of May my class room and I will go to Stardome to learn about space because this term our topic is about space.

I can't wait to go to Stardome because it is going to be my first time to go to Stardome.

Life Education

It was the first time I went Life Education. Neha said that it would be really fun. As our class lined up to go we were all very,very,very excited

As we went, the door of the cabin opened and we went in. We all enjoyed it very much. I really enjoyed it.I went with my class and Miss Mead.We really loved.We also played lots of games about the heart.We also got a chance to see and help Harold. I really wish I could go again because I really like to learn about the body.

Netball

on Saturday the fifteenth of May I went to netball like every other saturday but this wasn't just a saturday to me, Maria Tutia came to my netball game! For those of you who don't know who Maria is she is a famous netball prayer she is in the silver ferns and the LG Mystics! I didn't know that she was watching till my friend Grace told me, we lost against Curry Land there so good that they have there own jackets, its so hard playing WD angst them you have to keep running up and down and up and down but it all payed off when it started raining but then it started raining harder and harder and then getting colder and colder and then the game was over it was fun and sad.

My best trip to the beach

I just got out of bed and realised that it was New Year. I got ready my dad told me that we were going to the beach with Astha and her family. I wasn’t that excited because last time we went to the beach it was freezing. I started to pack. I packed a pair of googles and a boogey board to ride the waves. The beaches name was Muriwai. It was my second time I was going to Muriwai beach the only diffrence was that this time we were going to swim.

An hour after we left we reached the beach. I hopped out of our blue car and ran to the sand it didn’t take me long to realise that this wasn’t normal sand it was hot burning sand I ran to the water to cool feet down.My dad told my sister, Kriti and me we were only allowed to get our feet wet for now and we would swimming later. He didn’t want us to get cold.

Later Kriti and I really wanted to go in the water I started to beg my father he said “yes”. Kriti and me were really excited we started to jump up and down.”But”! “We have to have lunch first” said dad. That made us sad because we weren’t the type of people that liked waiting all the time.

My father started to look for a place to eat. When he had found a spot I got embarrassed because it was under a bunch of trees and worst of all it was in the car park another thing it made me feel was scared because what if a bug crawls into my food just before I take a bite! When my mum took out the baked potatoes I forgot about everything I had said in in my head because I had always loved baked potatoes because it had a delicious cheesy taste to it .

After lunch it was time to play in the water. I quickly changed into my swimming suit. I grabbed the boogey board that I had packed and ran past the hot sand and into the water to surf the waves.The first one I surfed was boring but when I got to my 3rd turn the wave took me all the way back to the sand And the cool thing was that it was my fist time boogey boarding!

A couple of hours later, I got cold. I went to my parents and buried myself to keep warm. My sister found two perfect shells. I was starting to get bored. I had hardly anything to do. I was too cold to make a sand castle and far to cold to go back to the water. I was super, duper bored.

One hour before we left, we were given a free ice-block it was tropical flavour and we got a picture taken with us enjoying our ice-blocks. When it was time to leave,I was sad. I got into the car and thought about all the fun we had.

Awesome Term 1

Term 1 has been a wonderful experience! From camp to learning sketching skills and to learning all about statistics. Camp was great! The food was great , the activities were great and we got to stay there for 5 whole days! After coming back from camp we started learning about sketching skills, then we used the skills to sketch our beautiful smelly shoes! While we were doing that we also we learning all about statistics. We learned about tally charts, bar graphs and how to do good statements. Looking back term 1 has been awesome and we hope term 2 will be even better!

The sleepover!

My sisters and I were saying good bye to our parents but that was a total waste of time. We had to stay home for like ten hours acutely it was about two hours but it felt like ten, both my parents were going to work and that meant I had just wasted two hours of my precious precious life so then two hours later my mum came back from work ,my dad couldn’t take us because he comes back from work at elven at night. So any way I was angry but I was still excited that I was going, plus I had to practice for camp.This was my first sleep over with out my mum and dad but I was to happy to think about.

I was kind of angry but my anger went away when Kelly’s mum bought us pizza, then my anger came back when we had to go to bed the light was glowing in my eyes because we were sleeping on the ground, buy I got used to it.

Then finally Kelly and I was half a sleep half awake.than suddenly we herd a strange sound so like I said before we were half asleep half a wake so we thought it was nothing so we just went back to sleep so like a minute later we went back to sleep then the sound be came louder and then me and Kelly woke up with a bang! Like we just had a nightmare, we were so frightened you could here our harts beating.

I tried to see what it was but it was a little foggy because it was two in the morning but all I saw was a shadow hitting something was it a psycho killer I thought to myself,so as fast as I could I asked Kelly to come and help me but but she just went to sleep when I tried to wake her up, so of course she didn’t come.“you have to come this is an emergency” I lied well it kinda was a emergency someone could be breaking into there house. So after thirty minuets of arguing Kelly finally chose to get up but by the time she got there the shadow was gone. So since Kelly didn’t see the shadow she didn’t be live anything that I said for the rest of the night . Then when it was about nine in the morning Kelly's mum came in to clare the window,

Kelly asked her mum if she had seen anyone by the window just to prove me wrong, and her mum said “Oh sorry girls I was scaring the birds off the grapes but they kept coming so I went to go get the scarecrow, and that scared them off , oh “Thanks mum”.

My holiday to Australia

During the holidays I went to Australia on the airline called emirates with my mum my dad my baby brother and my brother for a holiday. I couldn’t wait to go on the plane because this was my first time going on emirates.

When we were half way up in the sky my baby brothers ears started to pop. He was the loudest baby on the plane. He stopped crying when we were not going any higher.

We watched g-force and astro boy because we had nothing else to do.For dinner the air hostess bought my brother and I Chicken,Peas,Corn and a Bun I had to swap seats with my dad because he had to cut my brothers food for him. After I finished dinner I relaxed in my comfortable chair and watched t.v. Suddenly I felt the urge to go to the toilet luckily I was close to the isle so went to the toilet but there was line so I had to wait.

I was scared going to the toilet because when you flush the toilet instead of it flushing normally it has loud and scary sucking noise like there was a hole in the plane.

A couple of minutes after I went to the toilet I saw Brisbane out of my brothers window.It took about ten minutes before we landed. When the plane touched the runway my brother got a fright because the plane shook a bit. I was thinking at last we are here I had to go to the toilet again but I had to go to airport toilet.

Devonport Holiday

The car was boiling hot like the Sahara Desert and very muggy. I was waiting for my parents to come into the car, so we could start the journey to Devonport. At the end of the year my family and my friends other families go to a beach all the time. Usually on the 30th January or the 31st. By the time we got there, we had to wait for 10 long minutes until the families came. Faith, my friend came out of her car and I rushed to her saying “Oh my gosh! Hi! When are you going to change into your swimsuit?” I felt pretty excited that we were going to swim soon! Little did I know, we had to eat first! Hmm I was feeling kind of hungry. My other friends Lourdes and Nicholas came wearing their swimsuits underneath their tops. When they came I rapidly changed into my swimsuit and we all started eating.

As I ate some chicken, my tummy was filling with excitement! I ate about four small chicken legs, somehow this made me feel sick maybe it was the excitement but I didn’t throw up. After I ate I had to look after my little sister Lexie. She is 16 months old, but she looks 2 years old! Lexie and I also played with Faith, Faith is 9 years old and she was also going to swim with me at the beach. We still had to wait for the other people to finish eating before we could swim. I felt depressed that we couldn’t go straight away.

When everyone finished eating we were free to go to the beach. I ran with my spongebob boogie board. The sand felt weird beneath my feet, it felt slushy, it had brown wavy lines that looked like slugs slithering across the ground. I panicked “Faith Is this sinking sand?” I shouted. “No it’s just normal sand!”Replied Faith. Phew! At least I don’t have to be anxious so much anymore.

The sprinkles of rain turned into heavy rain, while I was a spinning in circles. The beach was low tide, there was no water at shore so we marched on and on, to see if the water would get deeper. It was like marching up the Ninety mile beach! We came to an end when the water was up to our ankles. I could barely see the sand. We didn’t notice that there was a dangerous rip ahead. “Sigh” it’s getting quite boring, I was just about to go ahead, but all of a sudden I stepped on the tip of a rock!”OWW!” I screamed. Faith turned around looking anxious and said “What’s wrong?” “I stepped on a rock, it’s ok.” I replied

While Faith and I were chatting, I realized that we were very far from shore. I felt chilly and wanted to go and roll around in the water. Then I thought that would be ridiculous. So instead I went to hunt for any sea creatures like starfishes and sea snails. But all I found was a bungle of seaweed. Yuck! I would never ever touch seaweed!

I could see people windsurfing. They did really fearful stunts like colossal flips high in the air and magnificent twirls. I wish I could windsurf. When i’m older I want to join a windsurfing competition! I also saw lots of seagulls. I got nervous because I thought that they would peck me! But it didn’t matter. Far out in the ocean there were little boats and big boats. I also saw a sail with the number 49 on it. Surprisingly there were a lot of events going on here. But it was dead quiet. It was like no one was there except the lonely beach.

After 20 minutes of playing on the beach the weather got disastrous. It was freezing like the South Pole. It was like I was in a sauna because it’s foggy, but not hot. We sat quietly watching the waves come and go and when I turned my head “SPLAT!” Unexpectedly slushy sand went on my rash shirt! This meant war! Faith and I started throwing a lot of sand around! I was in chaos! There was even sand down my rash shirt, the sand felt like rough paper against my chest rubbing every time I moved, but I knew this day would turn out great! B y L y n e t t e

A hot summers day at Whangamata !

We were driving to Whangamata on a hot summers day where my step grandparents own a batch. So we were driving along for a boring three hours but the roads were really windy so I got car sick and softly drifted to sleep. When we arrived at our batch my sister Emma told me “ While your were asleep we passed a gypsy fair and dad said we could go”.I was so excited!

The only problem was we had to wait for my aunt and cousins untill we could go.I got really bored because they didn’t come for another half an hour. When they finally arrived us and our legs walked in agony to the field were the fair was.

When we got to the park all I saw was bushes then we turned the corner and saw the most amazing ride ever! It was a swing ride. A swing ride is just like baby swings that go really high in a circle. As soon as I saw it I shouted to my cousin Liam “I’m so going on that ride”! Before we had headed off my Mum had given me $2. I just hoped it was enough.

The ride turned out to be $4 so I had to beg my uncle to let me borrow $2. So when he finally gave in my cousin Liam and I sprinted to the ticket booth and bought our tickets.When we got to the gate of the ride the man was just opening it. Only 2 people where allowed on at a time. that was Liam and I.

Since only two people were allowed on at a time you had to go opposite each other. When I got onto the swing and the man strapped me in I started to get excited and nervous at the same time. This was going to be awesome!

I was right this ride was awesome. “Liam” I shouted “Liam can you hear me”? He didn’t answer back so I thought he was dead.I looked at my aunty while swinging backwards. I realised he wasn’t dead because she was laughing. Laughing at me!

The ride was so terrifying that it made you feel like you were going to fling onto the road.When it ended Craig (my uncle) bought us all food. Guess what I got? A vegetable samosa!

My Fishy Holiday!

The sun was coming through the window of the car like hot burning knives. It was extremly hot in the back of our car. We were heading to Ponsonby for fishing. I sure hoped we didn’t catch a fish because I don’t like any sort of fish and because I knew that Mum would make Dad and me eat it for dinner. On the way to Ponsonby, we had to stop at Mt Albert to buy some bait. We went to a fishing shop and bought some frozen stiff squid bait. Yuck! It smelt horrible! Well kind of horrible. Half an hour or an hour later, we were in Ponsonby! But we still weren’t quite at our fishing destination. A couple minutes later, we had to stop again because we needed to buy some scissors to cut the fishing line and the bait.

Finally we arrived at our fishing spot. But the fishing spot was a bit crowded and plus there were almost no more parking spaces (almost everybody chose to go fishing that day!)! So we kinda had to wander around a bit to find a parking space and a fishing spot. Finally we found a parking and fishing spot. We went out to the back of our car to get the equipment but....... the fishing lines were tangled! I felt dismayed because it would take ages to untangle the fishing lines. So we began to untangle them. Boring! I wanted to start fishing straight away! There’s no time to untangle fishing lines....

Between 15 minutes and half an hour later, we finished 1 fishing line (yes we had to untangle the fishings lines or we couldn’t go fishing). Then we began putting the hooks and things on that line. That took us about another 10-15 minutes to finish 1 fishing line. Then I began to untangle the other fishing line because I was bored and because Mum told me so. But the second fishing line was a bit difficult because the line was caught in between the mechanism. But I did it in the end. Then Mum put in the hook and things. Then we were ready to catch some fish! (yuck!) Hip Hip HOORAY! (well kind of.)

After untangling the fishing lines, we were ready to start fishing. But when Mum threw out her fishing line, she threw into the seaweed patch. Which was very close to the rocks. Mum hadn’t done very well (she’s normally very good at fishing and casts the fishing line long away). Then she tried again, but that time it got snagged on the rocks or in the sea so we had to cut the fishing line. How sad! Then my Grandad tried and the same thing happened again! How frustrating. Half an hour later we finally got a really far cast. It was casted by Mum. Then we for some bites but none came. It was just a intsy bitsy nibble when we reeled it in. Then we went home after we packed our belongings.

While we were driving home, I thought to myself, “ I’m quite happy I didn’t catch a fish otherwise we would be consuming fish tonight!”
